I just finished my first Christmas dress of the season … a custom order. If you live in the midwest, you know we had some powerful storms come through this week. We lost power but our generator kicked on, so all was good … until 3am this morning when the generator quit. And as a bonus, it’s a little overcast this morning and we’re surrounded by large trees. So … how to take photos of the new dress without the use of my photography lights? After some experimenting, I set up my backdrop in the window seat of the dining room and positioned my husband holding two flashlights. Not the best photo I’ve taken, but it will do in a pinch.

So this is take 2 on the new sewing pattern I’m working on. I’m planning the pattern to have two skirt options: a long straight skirt and a midi full skirt, both using the same bodice pattern. Dress is made from cotton lawn in some of my favorite shades of blue. Available now in my Etsy shop.

I’m working on a new sewing pattern from a photo of a vintage style dress. I love the embroidered silk fabric from the last dress I made, so I used the same fabric for this dress. I think I’ll try a short version of this dress next. Full skirt or pencil skirt … that is the question.

Trying my best to blog about this dress before it sells out. I’m in love with this bodice pattern. The seaming makes it stay put and not slip down – always a plus with a strapless dress. This dress is hand sewn from embroidered silk taffeta with coordinating hat and gloves. Available now in my Etsy shop.

Please note, the coat features princess seaming. The strapless bodice on the dress is quickly becoming my favorite with it’s unusual seaming that helps it stay in place without slipping.

This coat is very hard to photograph and get the colors right! It’s an iridescent silk with threads of emerald green and navy, but it keeps photographing as teal. The princess-seaming takes forever to sew but looks oh so chic. I’ve paired it with a sleek navy gown. Fashion includes gown, coat, metal tiara, and magnetic rhinestone brooch. I had a request to draft this pattern from a sketch. This is the prototype. I made it from some fine cotton lawn fabric I picked up in London this spring. It’s not Liberty fabric, but it drapes and feels exactly the same as tana lawn. Fashion includes dress, hat, and necklace.
