A year ago or so, I purchased yardage of vintage hand embroidered petit point trim. I decided my new dress pattern was the perfect avenue for this trim. I used it as an inset in the skirt and to make an elegant wrap. The rest of the dress is hand sewn from lavender Dupioni silk that coordinated beautifully with the embroidered pansies. I’m on a roll with large format petit point embroidered flowers! This hankie features large red roses so I made a full skirt to show them off. A shapely blouse with pleated peplum was just the ticket to pair with this special skirt. A hat and rhinestone brooch complete the look. Notice the candlesticks in the background? I had a customer request two dresses similar to dresses I had made before. Different hankies, of course, but the styles are the same. Here’s the result.
I found this hankie bordered with petit point flowers. I decided to use only the border to make the skirt … I just sewed strips of border together and then cut out the skirt from the new piece of fabric I made. The coordinating blouse is a made from silk tissue taffeta. A rhinestone brooch accents the portrait collar. Available now in my Etsy shop.

I found this gorgeous petit point hankie on eBay a couple weeks ago and narrowly won the bid. I love the border of petit point roses and hand stitched eyelet.
