What’s better than a vintage inspired little black dress? How about one with a versatile capelet that converts to a peplum/overskirt when worn at the waist. I took my inspiration from a circa 1960 Butterick sewing pattern. I lengthened the capelet to better show off the border print. Now available in my Etsy shop.
I’m been really inspired by vintage sewing patterns lately. I saw this Simplicity pattern from 1959 on eBay and Etsy and fell in love with the neckline. So after three attempts at the pleated bodice, I finally figured out how to simplify and redraw the pattern Barbie size. I bought this hankie at an antique shop because the colors were so vibrant and I loved the border print. I was able to use every scrap of border on the skirt and bodice and used some coordinating pink silk for the waistband and bows. And who else to model the dress than Proudly Pink Silkstone Barbie. I happened to have two identical vintage printed hankies with this perfectly scaled houndstooth in lavender and white with a red floral border.
