A friend of mine recently went to see the Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum and sent me photos to drool over. Which led me to Google more photos of his work, Wikipedia, and other rabbit holes. In doing so, I found this Dior sketch and thought, “Hey, that would make a great dress for Barbie!” So I did my own sketch to better figure out the pattern pieces I’d need.

Now all I had to do was draft a pattern and make the dress! I chose a vintage hand-embroidered wedding hankie for the basic dress and used silk tissue taffeta for the bow detailing. The pattern ended up being super simple to create and is now available to download from my Etsy shop. I’ll be taking the dress to the GAW Barbie Convention in April – I’m sewing like mad trying to get enough stock on hand for room sales and the sales room!
