Clay flowers

Many of you may have noticed or commented on the flowers that appear in my photos. My flower lady, Joy, has alas moved from Michigan to Tennesee, but I happened to run into her yesterday at the Tulip Festival in Holland, Michigan. I discovered she has just opened an Etsy shop to sell her flowers. It’s called TheArtFair. Check out her shop at TheArtFair.etsy.com. Here are some samples of her work from one of my archive photos.

  1. Chris, Holland is a lovely town. The tulips were gorgeous yesterday. We always go the first weekend of the festival when they have the artisan market. It’s a really nice craft show. And we get to see some dutch cloging while we shop.

The downtown area is really nice with some unusual shops and several antique malls. Yesterday, we stopped at Downtown Antiques and Home Furnishings (found a hankie and a petit point purse!), and the Wooden Shoe Antique Mall (found another hankie). I also love browsing the Wee Dollhouse Shop for rugs, flowers, miniatures and building supplies that can work for 1/6 scale too.

Tip: Eat lunch early, like at 11:30am. There will be lines outside the door for most of the downtown restaurants. We always eat at the Alpenrose. They do a nice buffet for lunch and they have plenty of seating. The front of the restaurant is kind of a sandwich shop and there may be a line there, so walk through that area to the lobby, about half way into the space. There you’ll find the hostess stand. The buffet is really good soups, salads, 2 entrees, 2 veggies, and bitesize desserts that are to die for. Or you can order off the menu.

I always love walking around Holland, so I’m sure you’ll have a great time!
